I rode Symonds Yat back in February 2015 on quite an epic wet ride, that included an ascent of the Tumble. Symonds Yat was the last on the menu at around 80 miles, so the legs were already quite tired by the start. With this, I took it steady up the gradual introduction and then got out of the saddle to grind my way up the steep part. The road gets a little narrow and is kind of covered with trees e.t.c
About Symonds Yat
It is an unusual name and it is said to come from Robert Symonds, a 17th-century sheriff of Herefordshire, “yat” as an old word for a gate / gorge or pass. It is like a narrow pass from river to locations beyond.
Symonds Yat was mined for iron ore and there were many river ferries from the town of Ross over the River Wye.
